What is Lymphatic Massage?

Lymphatic massage is a gentle, therapeutic form of massage using light, rhythmic skin stretching techniques to move fluid away from tissues and toward lymph nodes. Lymphatic massage is designed to stimulate the natural circulation of lymph fluid around the body to reduce fluid retention and aid in detoxification.

It is not a deep tissue massage, it uses very light pressure to affect only the lymphatic vessels just below the skin.

Lymphatic massage is recommended for:

  • Swollen ankles, hands or puffiness in the face

  • A feeling of heaviness, stiffness, or tightness in the limbs

  • Clothes, rings, watches feel tighter than usual

  • Ongoing fatigue, brain fog, or frequent, unexplained headaches

  • Dry skin, acne, slow wound healing

  • Chronic sinus infections

Our lymphatic system is a vital part of our immune system. It maintains fluid balance by draining excess tissue fluid (lymph), it transports fats and nutrients from the digestive system to the bloodstream, it defends our body against infections and abnormal cells, and it acts as a waste removal system by filtering debris and pathogens through our lymph nodes to then be directed to our elimination systems (urinary, digestive, respiratory, integumentary).

Lymphatic massage can aid in healthy function of the lymphatic system so that it can do its important job of keeping us healthy.

When to avoid Lymphatic Massage:

Do not seek this massage if you have active infections (cellulitis), active blood clots (thrombosis), untreated cancer, or serious heart/kidney conditions without consulting a doctor first.
