Thai massage is an ancient healing art involving the application of pressure on various energy lines and points in the body. Thai massage includes compressions along the meridian lines in the body, along with an array of passive stretching movements, kinda like passive yoga, that are performed by the therapist to the client with feet, knees, hands and elbows. Thai massage is not only very relaxing it increases the flow of energy throughout the body, stimulates proprioceptive function, mobility and flexibility, as well stimulating internal organs to perform more optimally. Thai massage is performed on the floor on a mat with client fully dressed in loose fitting, flexible clothing, no oils are used on the client.
This style of massage is one of the modalities I was being treated with during my stroke rehabilitation in 2011, and I was in amazement each time after session with my therapist, the increased ability to move and improved balance was incredible! My strides were more steady and confident! Not only were the improvements in my physical body amazing, but my cognitive function too, I was receiving return bursts of memory while in session!
